This week, we met with our Five In A Row Co-op for culminating activities for Wee Gillis by Munro Leaf. Since I was unable to get my hands on a copy of the book to use at home, our "rowing" looked a bit different this time. The public library had a 30 minute movie version that we checked out and watched rather than read. It was different, but I see that it could be a nice treat. I'll be on the lookout for available videos to go with our FIAR books in the future.
At co-op, Ms. Tammy led the kids in a mapping activity concerning the highlands and lowlands of Scotland. She wore her arisaid and discussed traditional Scottish dress. Then, she spread the arisaid on the floor for the kids to sit on while she read the story. However, they stopped several times to stalk stags, listen to bagpipe music, and test their lung capacity by blowing balloons. Wee Gillis had quite the strong lungs, and some of our co-op kiddos proved they did as well :-) Ms. Tammy brought oatmeal for a snack, so the kids got to take part in a measuring activity. Then, they cut-out some paper dolls. (Well, Jeremiah politely declined - girl stuff! Caleb cut out one and decided he agreed with his brother.)
I didn't have the camera out much, so I only caught balloon blowing pics. Although, they are quite humorous. Enjoy!
